 この(kono)/その(sono)/あの(ano)

We have studied that the demonstratives これ(kore)/それ(sore)/あれ(are) work as nouns.

When you want to use これ(kore)/それ(sore)/あれ(are) with nouns, you should use この(kono)/その(sono)/あの(ano) instead of them.
※この(kono)/その(sono)/あの(ano) must be followed by a noun.

こちらの(kochirano), そちらの(sochirano), あちらの(achirano) are politer than この(kono)/その(sono)/あの(ano)

①この(こちらの)

”この” is used to indicate to a thing that is close to the speaker.

e.g. このとけいは 1000えんです。

  Kono tokei wa 1000en desu.

   This watch costs 1000yen.

②その(そちらの)

”その” is used to indicate to a thing that close to the listener.

 e.g. そのシャツは たなかさんのです。

Sono shatsu wa Tanaka-san no desu.

    That shirt is Mr.Tnaka’s.

 ③あの(あちらの)

”あの” is used to indicate to a thing that is neither close to the speaker nor the listener.

  e.g. あのほんは やすいです。

    Ano hon wa yasui desu.

    That book is cheep.
