In this lesson, you will learn how to use the Japanese grammar い・なAdjective/N+て.

We have studied "そして" before.
"そして" is a conjunction, which is used for adding more information in parallel to the same subject or topic, like “and” in English.

Today we are going to study the "い・なadjective/Noun + て" form.
This sentence pattern is used when two or more いor な adjective or Noun sentences are joined to form a single sentence instead of using “そして.”

<いA(い けいようし)>

To remove "い" and add "くて."

~い→くて e.g. おもしろ→おもしろくて

Mr. Lee is funny and kind.

The Kamo River is big and beautiful.

These strawberries are red, big, and delicious.

“いい" is an exception; it turns to "よくて."

Ms. Kimura is smart and kind.

<なA(な けいようし)>

"で" are added.

なA+ e.g. げんき→げんき

Mr. Yamada is energetic and cheerful.

This hotel is quiet, clean, and close to the train station.

Kyoto is a famous city and has many temples.

<Noun(めいし)>

"で" are added.

Noun+ e.g. 18さい→18さい

Max-san is 18 years old and a student.

Maria-san is a teacher and teaches English at a high school.

This is a Japanese sake and very tasty.


👉<Notes>

⚠The number of predicates that can be connected is limited to two or three.


⚠It can't be used when expressing different or opposite descriptions on one topic.
You should use “が(ga)” instead.

This bag is new but isn't beautiful.
