In this lesson, you will learn how to use the Japanese grammar ~ています.

You’re talking to a friend from school. They asked you what you do after school. You work part-time at a café two days a week, on Tuesdays and Fridays.
Here’s what you can say in this situation: “火曜日と金曜日にカフェでアルバイトをしています。(かようびと きんようびに カフェで アルバイトを しています。)"

Today let's learn about "~ています".

👉<Form>

Verb てform + います

For negative forms, it becomes "Verb てform + いません".

👉<Use>

When the same action is repeated several times, it is expressed using ”Verb てform+います” to indicate it.

This expression is often used to describe a habit or occupation.

"カフェでアルバイトをしています" means "I work part-time at a café (as a regular habit)".

⚠The sentence pattern "Verb てform(て形)+います" has several meanings.

We have studied the case in which it indicates that a certain action is in progress.
